ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I love the process of creating monotypes; its inherent immediacy and looseness allows me the freedom to experiment with the medium and to explore the possibilities of the images that appear… organic symbols such as ovals, circles and shapes of flowers suggest cycles of life, passage of time, renewal, beauty…hope. Words, letters, or numbers hint at markings from my journals, sketchbooks, collected letters, calendars, or particular passages from books that are meaningful to me. I work directly on the plexiglass plate and also include Xerox lithography, and chine colle. The many layers of ghost images reveal themselves slowly, allowing one to slow down and look more closely.

I have recently been studying/learning/exploring the artists book form and I am now making artists books using my monotypes. The learning process is constant and expansive…creating art allows me to slow down and stop time, however briefly.

As Louise Bourgeois so succinctly put it, "Art is a guaranty of sanity."
